How to Restate a Question in RACE

The first step of the RACE strategy is R – Restate the Question. Restating means taking the words from the question and turning them into part of your answer. This shows you understand what is being asked and helps you start your response clearly.

Here are some tips for restating:

• Use part of the question in your answer.

• Change the question into a statement.

• Do not just copy the question word-for-word.

• Avoid starting with “because” — you need to restate before giving your answer.
